A top charity yesterday urged the Government NOT to hand out aid to corrupt leaders.
GOAL made the plea as former Zambian president Frederick Chiluba awaits trial for theft.
He is accused of stealing more than EUR350,000 of public money.
And GOAL says the southern African country has received cash aid from Ireland in the past.
John O'Shea, the charity's boss, said: "During his presidency, Chiluba was a regular visitor to Ireland to collect his yearly development aid cheque from the Government.
"Serious questions have to be asked about the many millions handed over to him, and the whole policy of bilateral aid in general."
