GOAL today expressed gratitude to the Irish Government for their prompt action in sending a consignment of emergency relief supplies to GOAL’s team in Zimbabwe through the Irish Aid Rapid Response Initiative.
Commenting on the supplies, GOAL CEO John O’Shea said; “Thanks to the quick response of Irish Aid we will be able to bring much needed relief to the beleaguered people of Zimbabwe. The outbreak of deadly cholera threatens thousands of families. By acting quickly, we can ensure that these people are given a real chance of survival.”
The relief supplies includes jerry cans for water storage and water purification tablets that will enable already contaminated water be converted into usable water.
At risk families are also being provided with oral dehydration sachets to promote early treatment of dehydration and soap so that the spread of Cholera from hand to hand contact is curtailed. GOAL is distributing in four locations in Harare which remains the areas of most critical need
It is estimated that approximately 30,000 families will be reached through this emergency response. |
