Media Statement, 25th September 2007
GOAL has called on the government to lend its support to the stance being taken by thousands of pro-democracy monks in Burma.
With fears that the oppressive Burmese military junta will take aggressive action to prevent further demonstrations by the monks and their supporters, GOAL believes that it’s imperative that the Irish government makes public their support for the protesters.
“We must stand firm beside these brave people. We must do all within our power to convince the international community at large that violence against the monks will simply not be tolerated,” stated GOAL’s John O’Shea.
