Media Statement, 14th January 2009
GOAL is pleased to announce the signing of an agreement between the organisation and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which will see GOAL become one of the first NGOs on the call-sheet of UNHCR during times of humanitarian emergencies.
John O’Shea, GOAL CEO, said; “This agreement shows the high regard in which the UNHCR holds the work of GOAL. We will now be one of their ‘go to’ agencies, which reflects GOAL’s long-standing ethos of getting the job done with a minimum of fuss or bureaucracy.
“Since 1977 GOAL has responded to almost every major natural and man-made disaster, working to bring relief in almost 50 countries in that time. On many of those occasions we have worked alongside UNHCR. The signing of this agreement is a recognition of this beneficial working relationship to date and a statement of the UNHCR’s confidence in GOAL’s ability to serve the world’s most vulnerable.”
