General Description of Programme
The overall aim of the GOAL Niger country program is to improve the health and nutritional status of the most vulnerable populations of Zinder Region by tackling their endemic problems of acute malnutrition, improving food security and increasing sustainable access to safe drinking water.
In the Zinder region, GOAL has operated 12 Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP) sites, set up under the 2005 emergency response program, to treat cases of moderate acute malnutrition. GOAL’s Nutrition strategy for 2007 is to continue to serve beneficiaries in these catchment areas, but also to fully transition these supplementary feeding services into Ministry of Health-run local health centers. In addition to the integration of SFPs, GOAL is also planning to incorporate the provision of Out-patient Therapeutic Programs (OTP) for the treatment of severe uncomplicated malnutrition at these sites.
