The GOAL Mile

Eamonn Coghlan with John O'Shea - GOAL Miles
The first GOAL Mile, in 1982 took place in Phoenix Park, Dublin. The following year it transferred to Belfield in Dublin and has been there ever since. The GOAL Mile is now an important part of Christmas for the many families who take up the baton to help those less fortunate than themselves.

2005 was the first year of the GOAL Mile in the UK.
Could you organise a GOAL Mile this year?

Apart from raising badly needed funds for the GOAL it is an ideal way of expressing your solidarity with the poorest of the poor in the developing world and those suffering the effects of war, famine and disease.

Members of the public are asked to support their local Mile event. They can just turn up on the day, make a donation and run, walk, hop, skip or jump the mile. Most of those taking part are far from being athletes!

Andrea Roche launches GOAL miles

In 2007, thousands of dedicated people came together on Christmas morning to literally go that extra mile for the poor. The number of GOAL Mile locations is increasing steadily each year. This year the Mile took place in 65 locations. We would like to extend out heartfelt thanks to all who took part. In total, over €400,000 was raised, thanks to the outstanding efforts of all involved.
